In the digital printing process, the toner is fixed onto the paper web by heat. This causes moisture loss in the paper. This moisture loss has an adverse effect on the properties of the paper and on subsequent post printing processes.
WEKO has developed a damping/remoistening system that is used in conjunction with high performance on-demand digital printing equipment.
The WEKO RFDi Damping System for Digital Printers restores moisture to the paper web after it exits the print engine by applying water to both sides of the web surface.
The RFDi Damping System employs upper and lower rotors (spinning cups) that are enclosed in a self-contained free-standing housing. The unit is equipped with touch pad controls and an alarm light that indicates the stage of operation.
The RFDi Damping System does not require any interface or connections with the printer, has its own 30 liter water tank, only requires a single phase electrical connection, and can be installed in less than one hour. The system requires approximately four feet of space for installation and is installed either after the printer or after the accumulator.
Issues that are caused by moisture loss, such as poor sheet handling due to static, curling of the edge of the sheet, difficulty in stacking, and/or waviness or fluting of the sheet, will successfully be addressed through the conditioning of the paper and the restoration of moisture content.
